Corinth Canal connects the Gulf of Corinth with the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea. It is 6.4 kilometres (4.0 mi) in length and only 21.3 metres (70 ft) wide at its base. The first to propose the possibility of opening this canal was the tyrant Periandros in the 7th century BC. Several rulers in antiquity & later on dreamed of digging a cutting through the Isthmus. However it was only completed on 25 July 1893 after eleven years' work. Every year around 15.000 ships, vessels, boats, are using it.
In the 4th of November 2012 around 70 SUPs passed through the canal in a historical speed crossing event....
